Project Engineer - Mechnical Design
Were looking for an experienced Project Engineer with strong mechanical design knowledge who can own and drive New Product Introduction (NPI) projects from initial concept stage through to manufacture.

The successful candidate will be working in a busy environment so must be a strong communicator. You will have your own transport and be comfortable with travelling 50% of the time between Redditch and site in Italy.
As an integral member of the team you will:
Project manage and lead all NPI driven projects for mechanical design aspects
Represent and report on an ongoing basis all aspects associated to the mechanical inputs.
Liaise with all other cross functional project team members ensuring all projects are progressing forwards at the required pace and ultimately a successful conclusion
Liaise with and manage external 3rd party resource as required
Principally this is the lead role for all NPI projects from a mechanical perspective. It is expected that the engineer will drive the mechanical design inputs through the NPI to a successful conclusion.
It is expected that the engineer will draw on Six Sigma tools and philosophies to ensure a robust design methodology is executed for each product development.
All new component and assembly design will be the principle charge of the engineer.
This will require the engineer to be able to conceptualise ideas and develop them into workable and robust solutions.
Appropriate records relating to the design development process of projects are expected. These should highlight reasoning behind design developments. They should also include any relevant information relating to evaluation and resulting decisions.
Consideration will be given to issues including design for cost, manufacturability and process, either internally or by third parties. Appropriate material selection, finish and tolerance issues will be the assessed
Feedback relating to new component design from prototype and first off production will be used to develop the design to final issue.
Liaison with incoming quality will also be required to ensure components are within specification.
Skills and Experience Required
Ideally educated to Degree/HND level or equivalent in an engineering discipline ideally with experience of working in the fire industry or volume manufacturing environment
Working experience in a design office and cross functional / cross business project teams
Knowledge in the design and development of new products
Project Management
Competent with the use of Microsoft Office applications, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
Competent with and using an ERP system ideally SYSPRO or SAP.
Fluent with using PTC Pro Engineer and AutoCAD Computer Aided Design packages
Design of medium / high volume assembled electro/mechanical components
Experience in the design of small pressings, high volume thermoplastic injection mouldings, electro/mechanical parts
Ability to select and integrate proprietary off the shelf components into designs
Acoustic Horn Design principles, desirable
Strobe and Lens Design principles
Change management
Six Sigma tools and philosophies
Additional European languages an advantage
